How to buy food zero / low waste in Hong Kong?

I wrote about the different ways of how to avoid plastic packaging, especially when it comes to unrecyclable (soft) plastic packaging, during food shopping at shops and the wet market (the Hong Kong version of farmer’s market). I wanted to show that anyone could do so, even for those on a budget, and the importance of using what you own already. With all the upcoming zero waste related companies on the rise, it’s important to tell people to not feel forced in buying new things just because it’s marketed as ‘sustainable’. In Hong Kong alone, we have an abundance of excessive plastic packaging in supermarkets, local shops, wet markets (carrier bags are given with your produce), and just about anywhere you go in the city. Litter is everywhere - on the streets, next to street bins (yes, not even IN the bin!), in gutter grates, and even on our local beaches.

An introduction to Dirty Hippie Cosmetics, a small zero waste beauty seller based in Australia, who shares the passion for sustainability by providing plastic-free packaging for beauty products. They offer refills to reduce packaging waste for local orders in Australia, but provide refills in paper envelopes for international orders. For a few years, I wanted to try out their products and finally ordered a few of their products last year.
